I am excited to announce that beginning in Fall 2013, I will be an assistant professor in the Center for Medicine, Health, and Society at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN! I am so delighted to be joining such an innovative cohort of faculty working broadly on issues that intersect science, the politics of health, design, embodiment, and the social.
Readers of Design & Culture may be interested in my critical review essay (forthcoming July 2013) of two major works on Universal Design: Jon Sanford’s Universal Design as a Rehabilitation Strategy and Edward Steinfeld and Jordana Maisel’s Universal Design: Creating Inclusive Environments.
If you are interested in user-centered design and will be attending this year’s Society for Disability Studies annual meeting, please consider attending a panel conversation between Graham Pullin (Design Meets Disability), Rosemarie Garland-Thomson, Sara Hendren, Chris Smit, and myself. Using a non-traditional format, we will be introducing, reacting to, and discussing design objects and images related to the concept of the human user of design.
